This trek over the Rohtang Pass, altitude 13050 feet, takes you into a totally different socio-economic and cultural realm. Before 1976 the Lahaul valley was closed to trekkers, mountaineers and travelers

Name of Trek MANALI TO KEYLONG OVER ROHTANG PASS
Period July-September
Duration 5 days
Day-1 Manali-Rahla (2600 m), 14 kms by bus or on foot.
Along the Beas river with the choice to trek through alpine meadows and oaks. Visit Rahla falls.
Day-2

Rahla-Khoksar (3140 m), 21 kms On foot.

Choose from three routes. Either follow the metalled road or the mule track or the Gaddis short cut consisting of high stairs. Cross Rohtang Pass which affords passage into an arid Himalayan semi dry desert. From top one can see a silver ribbon threading through fields and that is mighty Chandra river.
Khoksar is the first village in the Lahaul valley. Foreigners should report to the Police Post near the PWD rest house at Khoksar. Good camping ground on the right bank of the river is available. If want to stay in the Rest House, contact SDO, PWD in his office.

Day-3

Khoksar-Sissu (3120 m), 14 kms On foot.

Along the right bank of the river. The valley flattens out at Sissu and appears strikingly green. Visit the waterfall on the left bank and the temple of Lord Ghepan, the supreme deity of Lahaul. Also visit two fountain slabs, one lying near the bridge and the other near the temple. There is a PWD rest house at Sissu. Permit obtainable at Khoksar.

Day-4

Sissu-Gondhla (3160 m),12 kms On foot.

Along the right bank of the river, one can see beautiful precipices opposite Gondhla. PWD rest house available here. Visit Tower of Gondhla and rock carvings near the Govt. School at Gondhla.

Day-5

Gondhla-Keylong (3156 m),18 kms On foot.

Upto Tandi follow the road. Tandi is the confluence of rivers Chandra and Bhaga. From Tandi follow the right bank of river Bhaga.
At Tandi visit Tupchiling Gompa. At Beeling on way to Keylong one may like to visit a small cave temple just above HRTC workshop.
From Beeling take the shortcut to reach Keylong, the administrative headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti.
