This trek leads into the Zangskar region of J & K through the beautiful Myar valley. You have to cross Kangla or Mon La from where the track goes to Padum.

Day-1

Keylong-Udaipur, 54 kms By bus

At Udaipur visit Mrikula Devi temple.

Day-2

Udaipur-Chimrat, 15 kms On foot

From Udaipur to Shakoli follow the right bank of Myar nullah. Just ahead of Shakoli cross the bridge to go upstream along the left bank. Valley broadens out from Shakoli. Good parches of Junipers can be seen around camp

Day-3

Chimrat-Urgos, 14 kms On foot

Trek upto Karpat along the left bank. Cross the bridge to go upstream the right bank till you reach the campsite at Urgos. Churput, Changut and Tingret villages are on the way.

Day-4

Urgos-Khanjar, 15 kms On foot

Cross the nullah at Challing village to reach the last village of this valley namely, Khanjar. Local people go to Zangskar for trade purposes.

Day-5

Khanjar-Thanpattam, 16 kms On foot

Continue along the left bank. Ford.a side stream originating from Shinku Pass. Climb to the campsite at the confluence of a side stream with the Myar stream. Camp on the pastures.

Day-6

Thanpattam-Khai Got, 13 kms On foot

Go upstream Myar nullah. The track becomes difficult as you have to cross several streams. Camp at Khai Got. On way various alpine flowers may be seen. Myar valley is famous for its blue poppies.

Day-7

Khai Got-Phalphu, 14 kms On foot

Trek along the left bank. The ascent becomes more rugged. Camp at the snout of the Myar glacier. One gets very good view of the great Himalayan ranges.

Day-8

Phalphu-Glacier Camp, 12 kms On foot

Slog over the glacier to reach the Kangla Jot or the Mon La, alti 5468 m. The descent from the pass is steep. Camp at the foot of the pass on the other tongue of the glacier.

Day-9

Glacier camp-Chemochokore, 16 kms On foot

Climb down along the easily identifiable track to Chemochokore. Good campsite available.

Day-10

Chemochokore-Bardan, 8 kms On foot

Go down along the left bank of the nullah originating from the pass. Cross two small streams to reach Bardan gompa.

Day-11

Mune-Padum, 14 kms On foot

From the gompa climb down a steep incline to the main track. Two hrs. trek brings you to Bardan gompa a kagyud-pa gompa famous for its 180 cm high mani prayer wheel. From this place a dusty motorable road leads to Padum (3650 m)
Bardan gompa was founded by Shabdru, who also founded Hemis gompa in Ladakh and later went to Bhutan. Padum is the administrative headquarters of Zangskar. Palace of the king of Zangskar is in ruins destroyed by the Dogras
