| Day-1 |
Keylong-Darcha, 28 kms By bus
Darcha is the last
village towards Leh in Lahaul. Camping ground along the Barsi nullah. |
| Day-2 |
Darcha-Patso, 15 kms On foot
Climb slowly into
the wilderness of this area. There is virtually no tree seen along the track. At Patseo
there used to be a trade fair before 1962. Goods were bartered here by the traders from
Tibet, Mongolia, Ladakh, Kullu, Lahaul and even Punjab. |

Patseo-Zingzingbar, 19 kms On foot
Follow the road or
take short cuts along the right bank of the river Bhaga. |
| Day-4 |
Naingahr-Alias, 14 kms On foot
The trek is
relatively easy along the right bank. One may see yaks and ibex in plenty. Cattle herds
can also be seen grazing on the nutritious meadows. One may like to see two natural caves
upstream a side nullah short of Alias, the outwash plain. |
| Day-5 |
Zingzingbar-Baralacha Pass, 9 kms On foot
There are several
steep rises followed by a plateau and a final slope just short of the pass leads to a tam
called Suraj Tal. This beautiful lake has crystal clear blue water. Just ahead of the lake
is a large pasture and Baralacha cairn. The pass is 16500 ft. high and gives rise to three
rivers, namely, Bhaga, Chandra and, Yunam. |
| Day-6 |
Pass-Tokpogongma, 12-13 kms On foot
From the top follow
left bank of Yunam river for about five kms. Then enter the Chandra valley. Go downstream
along the left bank of river Chandra. The route is surrounded by lofty peaks and glaciers
on both sides of the river. |
| Day-7 |
Tokpogongma-Tokpoyogma, 13 kms On foot
Either ford the
Tokpogongma side river or trek for about 3 kms to reach the ice bridge to once again
follow the left bank. Camp on the meadow. |
| Day-8 |
Tokpoyogma-Jithang, 10 kms On foot
Cross Yogrna ford
to go downstream the Chandra river. Alpine flowers can be seen in abundance. |
| Day-9 |
Lake-Batal, 14 kms On foot
A road is also being made linking Batal with the lake. At Batal one has to cross a bridge
to come to the camping ground. Earlier there was a rest house at Batal which fell prey to
avalanches. |
| Day-10 |
Phutiruni-Chhota Dara (3760 m), 16 kms On foot
Follow the right
bank of river Chandra. This place is reached via Batal which earlier had a rest house now
ruined by avalanches, Famous glacier Bara Shigri is seen in all its majesty from this
place. |
| Day-11 |
Chhota Dara-Chhatru (3360m), 16 kms On foot
Along the right
bank of Chandra, there is a PWD rest house at Chhatru and a Dhaba during the open season.
Ruins of old village devastated by Chandra can be seen. At
Gramphu, 5 kms short of Khoksar one meets the metalled road. |
| Day-12 |
Khoksar-Sissu (3120
m), 14 kms On foot
Along the right
bank of the river. The valley flattens out at Sissu and appears strikingly green. Visit
the waterfall on the left bank and the temple of Lord Ghepan, the supreme deity of Lahaul.
Also visit two fountain slabs, one lying near the bridge and the other near the temple.
There is a PWD rest house at Sissu. Permit obtainable at Khoksar. |
| Day-13 |
Sissu-Gondhla (3160
m),12 kms On foot.
Along the right
bank of the river, one can see beautiful precipices opposite Gondhla. PWD rest house
available here. Visit Tower of Gondhla and rock carvings near the Govt. School at Gondhla. |
| Day-14 |
Gondhla-Keylong
(3156 m),18 kms On foot.
Upto Tandi follow
the road. Tandi is the confluence of rivers Chandra and Bhaga. From Tandi follow the right
bank of river Bhaga.
At Tandi visit Tupchiling Gompa. At Beeling on way to Keylong one may like to visit a
small cave temple just above HRTC workshop.
From Beeling take the shortcut to reach Keylong, the administrative headquarters of Lahaul
and Spiti. |
